Sadly, two former presidents of SCL, Sir Brian Neill and Sir Henry
Brooke, have died in the last few months and we suspect that many SCL members
will wish to find a way to pay their respects.
A memorial service for Sir Brian Neill will be held at the Temple
Church on Thursday 19 April at 5.30 pm. The current SCL President, Professor
Richard Susskind OBE, is honoured to have been asked by Sir Brian’s family to
do a reading at the service.
We understand that Sir Henry’s family have taken the view that Sir
Henry would like people to remember him by supporting Public Law Project, the
charity of which he was patron for over 10 years. Their mission is to
improve public decision-making and facilitate access to justice, working
through a combination of research and policy work, training and conferences,
providing second-tier support and legal casework including public interest
litigation. Sir Henry said of PLP ‘If the Public Law Project did not exist,
