Tech lawyers are well aware of the need to keep on top of the latest developments in their field – in particular in the areas where new technologies are bringing about changes to the law and in the areas where new technology is impacting with the regulatory environment.
As SCL’s former Chair, I also became convinced that UK Tech lawyers need to be aware of international developments in the field to operate effectively. Mark O’Conor, the current SCL Chair, shares this belief. It was a major factor in tempting me to take on the Presidency of the International Federation of Computer Law Associations (IFCLA).
In June, the UK’s tech lawyers have a wonderful opportunity to widen their international horizons by attending the bi-annual IFCLA Conference, which will be held in London at the IET in Savoy Place on 9 and 10 June. This conference, which will replace the normal SCL Annual Conference, has all the usual SCL hallmarks – great value, fantastic speakers, a participative environment and a relentlessly practical focus – but with the added attraction of a range of international speakers. We have coverage of the hot issues like blockchain and cybersecurity but each session will have a special flavour, looking beyond our borders and taking account of the developments in other jurisdictions.
Having an international conference like this on the doorstep of so many of the UK’s tech lawyers provides an unrivalled opportunity to widen your range of contacts in other countries by exchanging views with tech lawyers from abroad. There are some great social events included in the Conference programme.
At £800 per member attending (£995 for non-members), the IFCLA Conference is a very cost-effective way for you to widen your horizons and your circle of international contacts in one fell swoop. Full Conference details are available {here: http://www.scl.org/site.aspx?i=ev42040}.
We are also holding a {Pre-IFCLA Conference Drinks Reception: http://www.scl.org/site.aspx?i=ev47402} on Wednesday 8 June 2016 at DLA Piper to which all SCL members are invited.
