Do you want to be able to ask more informed questions of your clients and give more focused, practical advice?

Then this is the event for you.

Neil Brown and Simon Forrester will be delivering a full day of “Back To Basics”: explaining, in a simple, engaging, manner the fundamentals of today’s (and perhaps tomorrow’s) technology.

Book now for a day of presentations, practical demonstrations, questions, and answers, covering:

  • what computers actually are, how they’re laid out, and work;
  • how the Internet works, and how the web works (they’re not the same!);
  • what software is and how it’s developed;
  • principles of digital security and user authentication;
  • encryption and hashing; and
  • cloud computing essentials, including different types of “as-a-service”.

It doesn’t assume any prior technical knowledge, but if you have some, this event will help you take it to the next level.

Speakers:
Neil Brown, Managing Director, decoded.legal
Simon Forrester, Software Developer, Mituyu. Developer, Zehuti Ltd

Why this event is important:
Tech Fundamentals is a structured day-long program for people with relatively basic tech knowledge. It starts with the very basics of computing and works through networks and connectivity, software development, security and encryption, and hosted / cloud services. It is an ideal primer for lawyers (and others) who want to know more about the fundamentals of the technologies on which they are advising.

This Conference is designed to help you understand the technology, to enable you to appear more informed to your clients, to ask better, more pertinent questions of the clients, and to get to grips with your clients’ technology/products more quickly and astutely.

Join Neil and Simon in London for a day of learning, exploration, and expert insight into how it all works. The recording of this course will be available to watch shortly afterward, so you can refer back as many times as you would like at your leisure.

Who should attend:

– The course is designed for lawyers who advise on tech-related stuff (whether you are a “tech lawyers” or not), who want a better understanding of the basics, for the reasons above. Technology continues to evolve at breakneck speed: equipping yourself with a mastery of the core principles is essential.

– This Conference is suitable for tech lawyers both in-house and private practice lawyers.

Speaker Bios:

Neil is an Internet, tech, and telecoms lawyer. He runs English law firm decoded.legal. He’s good at legal advice, particularly geeky tech stuff, but rubbish at writing bios.

Simon Forrester has been a professional developer since the 1990s, delivering solutions for the private and public legal sectors, civil, commercial, and criminal. He’s worked with the Society for over two decades: if you’re watching an SCL online event, it’s invariably Simon pushing buttons behind the scenes! He’s also presented various events, including previous Back To Basics sessions, and both online and in person. At the time of writing he’s polishing his presentations and limbering up for six hours of Back To Basics 2024.
